The area is named after the striking rock formations it sits upon. They are visible only from boats on the Potomac River or from the southern bank of the river in Virginia. The bridge is a two lane, steel truss bridge over the Potomac River. The upper chord of each length is polygonal with five slopes and the resulting arch resembles a camel’s back. Hence, it is also called a camelback truss type of bridge. The picture has been taken from the Virginia side of the bridge, from the public slipway. The wonderful reflections and natural colors that are on display in the picture make it a great capture.
