Monument Valley is located on the southern boundary of Utah, within the range of the Navajo Nation Reservation. The valley of the rocks is part of the Colorado Plateau and has Cutler Red siltstone and sand as the floor. The darker rocks get the blue-gray color from manganese oxide. The valley has large stone structures like Eye of the Sun. The shot displays the effect of light and shadow brilliantly. The front stone structures are in shade, while the farther structure, at the center is brightly lit. The contrast is captivating. The color of the sky further accentuates the beauty of the place.
