Lafayette Square is a public park located north of the White House. The square and the surrounding structures have been designated as National Historic Landmark District. Originally, the area was known as President’s Park and has been named in honor of General Lafayette of France. An equestrian statue of President Andrew Jackson stands in the center and the four corners have statues of other Revolutionary war heroes. Some of the buildings around Lafayette Square include the White House, the Department of the Treasury, the Old Executive Office Building and St. John's Episcopal Church.
