The Maine Monument commemorates the 260 American sailors who lost their lives when the battleship Maine exploded in the harbor of Havana. It has been sculpted by Attilio Picarelli and is placed at the entrance to the Park at Merchants’ Gate. The beautiful monument has intricately carved sculptures. The golden figures atop are awe-inspiring. The birds perched on the figures fill the sculpture with life.
