This was taken in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from an overlook just below Newfound Gap on the Tennessee side. The Foreground is in Tennessee, and the distant hills are in North Carolina. This water vapor rising from the forest, after a rain, has given the Smokies their name.
This phenomenon is not rare, but it is not an everyday occurrence. I have visited the Smokies many times without seeing it.
