This was taken in Sharon Woods Metropolitan Park, near Columbus, OH, in May of 1974. The new leaves had just emerged, and were still a very pale green, which accounts for their light appearance. The tree still stands, and puts out leaves like this every spring. However, the base of the tree is now obscured by brush and small trees. It looks very different today.
This photograph won a first prize in the Ohio State Fair professional arts division in 1974. This picture suffers more than most from the limitations of computer screens. Prints are far sharper, and more detailed.
