This is looking to the west at Mt. Moran on a bright, clear morning, from the valley level in Jackson Hole, in August, 1982. After a three-day backpacking trip from Teton Village along the Teton Crest Trail, I was waiting for my pre-arranged pickup. I had some free time, the mountain was standing there, and I had a camera. A picture was inevitable, and this is it.
The mountain is named for Thomas Moran, the painter. His paintings helped in the formation of Yellowstone National Park. There are not many mountains in the world, named for a painter.
