Chimney Rock was denoted as National Historic Site on August 9, 1956, Located in the valley of the North Platte River. Chimney Rock is known for the most famous landmark on the Oregon-California Trail, but it had made an impression on earlier residents of the area as well. This helped to those who had lived for centuries on the plains for comparing the rock with a feature from a white man's building. This overwhelmingly feeling lead the rock preferred with more delicate name "chimney.” This landmark has evolved remarked upon by people for centuries.
