This is the interior of the reconstructed Mission Espiritu Santo de Zuniga, near Goliad. The interior has been designed to approximate the type of furnishings which could have been present during the mission period, based on historical research, including examination of church records in Mexico City. The workmanship of the restorers was excellent, perhaps better than the original.
The mission was among the first, if not the first to engage in large-scale ranching. There were an estimated 40,000 head in 1777. Goliad claims to be the place where the cattle industry was invented.
