This 70-foot painted brick tower stands on Tawas Point, at the entrance to Tawas Bay, near the cities of Tawas and East Tawas, MI. This is about halfway up the Lower Peninsula, on the Huron shore. There has been a light in this vicinity since 1852, though the present structure dates only from1876. It is still operated by the U.S. Coast Guard.
This is the classic lighthouse design: a round, white, tapered tower, topped by an enclosure for the light, and with a keeper's house nearby. There are lots of lighthouses that do not fit this mold, however, including one on this website. Even on this light, however, the antenna does not carry out the classic theme.
