Goat Mountain (M)

Goat Mountain is a former volcano vent. It deposited the tuff in the foreground, then covered it with a thin layer of lava, which is now breaking up.

It is on the Ross Maxwell Drive, in the south-western portion of the national park. It is one of four volcanoes in the immediate area. Within three or four miles of this peak, there is an amazing variety of volcanic products jumbled together. This is only one example.
