Composition in Black and White
The two major components are 1) black: a mass of lava that was forced upward, but did not reach the surface before cooling and 2) white: a mass of tuff, or what the geologists call a "pyroclastic surge deposit".
These two came into being at different times, but they have now sat together for millions of years for us to wonder at..
In front of the tuff is something that looks like it might be a petrified tree, but is not. It is a lava tube, through which lava flowed to the surface. This also came into being at a different time from the other two elements.
This arrangement is located on the Ross Maxwell Drive, a few miles north of Castellon. It is just to the right of the drive, if you are going to Castellon.
